Not all campfire cooking has to be difficult. Enjoy these, quick, easy pie iron pizzas. This simple campfire recipe has just a few ingredients, is easy to put together and has minimal clean up.
Ingredients for Pie Iron Pizzas
- Two slices of bread
- Pizza sauce
- Shredded cheese
Directions for Pie Iron Pizzas
Generously butter one side of each slice of bread. Place a slice of bread, buttered side down, in one side of the pie iron. Cover bread with pizza sauce. Sprinkle with cheese. Top with remaining slice of bread, buttered side up. Cover with the other side of the pie iron and fasten securely.
Hold the pie iron in hot coals for about 3 to 5 minutes. Flip. Continue to cook for 3 to 5 more minutes. Carefully open the pie iron. Avoid touching the hot iron. Flip the pizza onto a plate and enjoy!
Depending on how hot the coals are, the pizzas may cook at a different rate. You may find you need less then 3 minutes for each side. Practice will help you get the length of cooking time just right.
